Rough Luxe boutique hotel
The name ‘Rough Luxe’ aptly sums up the whole character of this nine-room boutique hotel in London’s King’s Cross. There are mottled walls with scabrous wallpaper sharply contrasted with such luxurious furnishings as a photograph of the impressive Palazzo Altieri in Rome and a beautiful plaster chandelier by French designer Patrice Gruffaz. The multi-award winning designer/gallery curator/architect, Rabih Hage, was the man who transformed the Grade II listed Georgian townhouse into a shabby chic hotel.
A cheerful Continental breakfast of gooseberry and elderflower jam, steaming porridge and fresh croissants is served at the hotel’s dining table made of reclaimed wood from the Brighton pier, but no lunch and dinner is provided. Rather unexpectedly, Royal College of Art student, Ben Faga, has designed a hive on the roof of the hotel so this venue has a good supply of sticky, golden honey throughout the year.
